A wide range of emotions and feeling can be expressed through the arts, using clay and other therapeutic art forms. The Therapist facilitates the freedom and offers the opportunity for self expression, leading the young adult to a greater insight into themselves and their difficulties.
Creative Art Therapies are more often used with young adults. Additional techniques, such as visualisation and meditation, are also utilised and these are very much tailored to fit the individual.
Young adults and adolescents find this form of therapy beneficial as they map their way through a challenging landscape. Through this medium they can gain self-expression and a greater sense of wellbeing. This form of therapy offers a non-threatening approach to treatment that is especially helpful for people who are reluctant or find it difficult to talk to others.
A large body of research supports the effectiveness of Creative Art Therapy with young adults experiencing a wide variety of social, emotional, behavioural and learning difficulties.
